Honda HR-V vs Subaru Crosstrek: Cargo Capacity
Cargo capacity dimensions between the HR-V and Crosstrek are quite similar. The 60/40-split folding rear row on either model can conveniently fold down when you need to transport extra items. Check out the dimensions in the table below.
Honda HR-V vs Subaru Crosstrek: Cargo Volumes
|
Rear Seats Up |
Rear Seats Folded Down |
Honda HR-V |
24.3 cu. ft. |
58.8 cu. ft. |
Subaru Crosstrek |
20.8 cu. ft. |
55.3 cu. ft. |
As you’ll note from those dimensions, the HR-V provides slightly more cargo volume than the Crosstrek. While the dimensions are similar, you’ll see considerable differences in that aforementioned 60/40-split folding rear seat.
On the HR-V, you can use the unique 2nd-Row Magic Seat®. You can fold the seatbacks down in the traditional way, or you can fold the seat cushions up to fit taller items. Have longer items to bring instead? The front passenger seat can fold back to introduce up to eight feet of horizontal space.
Honda HR-V vs Subaru Crosstrek: Performance
The performance metrics of the HR-V and Crosstrek will also share some similarities along with noticeable differences. For starters, both models come equipped with a 4-cylinder engine. The Subaru engine is a little more powerful at 152 horsepower compared to the Honda model’s 141 horsepower.
The standard transmissions are also different. The HR-V engine is paired to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), while the Crosstrek engine is paired to a 6-speed manual. If you want a CVT on the Crosstrek, you’ll have to upgrade. While either transmission choice has its benefits, many drivers enjoy the seamless mechanisms of a CVT.
As an added bonus, a CVT can often produce better fuel economy, and that’s apparent when comparing the numbers on these two SUVs. Check out the EPA-estimated fuel economies below, noting that the HR-V metrics occur across all trim levels with 2-wheel drive (2WD):
- Honda HR-V: 28 city/34 highway MPG1
- Subaru Crosstrek: 22 city/29 highway MPG
The Crosstrek’s numbers do improve when you upgrade to the CVT, coming in at an EPA-estimated 28 city/33 highway MPG. However, as mentioned previously, you’ll have to choose the transmission upgrade to achieve this.
Honda HR-V vs Subaru Crosstrek: Amenities
Both models are packed with amenities to keep you and your passengers comfortable. Leather upgrades are available for the seats, steering wheel, and shift knob, all of which will add a sleeker touch to the interior.
On the outside of both models, you’ll find standard 2-speed intermittent windshield wipers as well as a rear window wiper for easy removal of condensation and snow. Various LED light systems are found, like the LED Brake Lights and Daytime Running Lights of the HR-V, and the LED fog lights of the Subaru.
One nice amenity of the HR-V is the Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock® feature. It’s a convenient keyless function that allows you to lock and unlock the doors when you approach or depart with the key fob on hand. While the Crosstrek has a similar option, this exact system is yet another proprietary feature found only on Honda models.
